These are usually found with night latches and often referred to as Yale type locks.

They are circular in shape and work similar to other pin tumbler locks.

Although they are commonly referred to as Yale locks, there are many different makes of this type of lock.

Mortice locks are found in wooden doors set inside a recess or “mortice” of a door.

They mostly use a lever lock system. There are many different types and makes of mortice locks and different levels of security.

This has a deadlock and a latch.

Used with handles with the keyhole as part of it.

They are used as a separate lock and not part of the handle mechanism.

These are generally used in a lot older doors or internal doors.

They are not a very secure lock and are not insurance approved locks!

They are a more secure lock and provide a lot more security than the 2 and 3 lever locks. They have a curtain within the key way which prevents access to the levers inside the lock.

Like most locks there are variations of this type and different makes. The most common makes are: Era and Union.

Although these are known as older locks, they provide a lot more security than most euro cylinders as they are harder to pick and sit inside the door so cannot be snapped.

Rim locks are normally found on shed doors and older doors.

They use a warded locking system and sit externally on the inside of the door
